Meeting was called to order by Patrick Madden.

Gail Hoven, UMass Boston

  • Apologized on behalf of UMass for concert noise.  UMass will notify Clam Point of future concerts so residents can prepare accordingly.

Officer Rorey, BPD

  • Explains how he will get us more pertinent information about incidents in or affecting the neighborhood. 
  • Call the CSO if you want to know what happened somewhere
  • Bicycle Rodeo - children ages 4-10 to the Boston Fire Department.  Have fingerprints taken, to be given to their parents in case they're needed.
  • 13 incidents in past month - very good!

David Pearlstein, Mill St.

  • Seeking variance to permit continued nonconforming use as they add to building.
  • Motion to support: passes by voice vote.

Marty Walsh, House of Representatives

  • Budget discussion.
  • MassHigway Discussion (follows)

Ernie Monroe, MassHighway

  • Resurfacing project from Savin Hill to Braintree Split
  • State recognizes this will cause traffic issues.
  • High speed lanes to be paved first, then low speed lanes.
  • Bridges to be completed separately.
  • Project completion scheduled for October 2009, but may finish as early as June 2009.
  • Work will reach Clam Point in June 2008.
  • Expect noise and dust along with traffic.

John Fallon, Noise barrier discussion

  • Barriers may be difficult to build.
  • Plantings are aesthetic but ineffective.
  • MassHighway will look at planting trees in "the bowl".

  • Groundbreaking on 6/16 at 6 PM
  • Followed by an awards dinner/fundraiser

David Higgins, 9 Park St.

  • F2-7000 zoning.
  • There is a brick 3-family house there now.
  • Proposes rehab of house, expand carriage house to 2-family, and build on vacant lot.
  • Total of 9 units, with 9 off-street parking spots. 
  • Shea Ennen - voices concerns about increases in property taxes and population density
  • Mike Cote - recommends requesting deferral of 6/3 zoning meeting, or if not possible, then supporting denial of variance.
  • Discussion of effects on property taxes. Differing thoughts expressed, but effects of projects are not clear.
  • Mike Cote - moves to support denial of variance.  Josie K. seconds.  Motion passes 10-1 by show of hands.
